Be a Greeter
Thank you for your interest in becoming a VisitBrighton Greeter!
Tourism has always been important for Brighton & Hove and has driven how the city has developed over the last 250 years.
From the early visitors attracted by Dr Russell’s famous seawater cure to the Prince Regent and his fashionable entourage, through to the arrival of the railway and the development of Victorian piers, hotels, theatres and attractions, Brighton has always held a heady lure.
The city has always been about tourism and we aim to continue to innovate by bringing more visitors to our unique and cultural destination.

A brief history of the Global Greeter scheme
Brighton & Hove is the first city in the UK to introduce a Greeter Scheme. They are already thriving in:
- New York, USA
- Chicago, USA
- Toronto, Canada
- Melbourne, Australia
- Houston, USA
- Buenos Aires, Argentina
- Paris, France
- and the Hague, Netherlands, amongst others.
The VisitBrighton scheme and the schemes above are all part of the Global Greeter Network.
The first Greeter Scheme was founded in 1992 in New York City. The idea grew from friendly exchanges founder Lynn Brooks had with people she met on her own vacation travels around the world.
Lynn wanted the world to know New York City as she did: a great big small town with diverse neighborhoods, mom-and-pop stores, fun places to dine, and friendly residents who go out of their way to help an out-of-towner feel welcome.
