Brighton Gay Bars

A photo of a drag performance at The Amsterdan in Brighton.

Brighton is famed for its nightlife and the LBGT and straight communities can be found seamlessly mixing right across the city.

But if its exclusively gay you’re after Brighton offers some of the best lesbian and gay bars in the country.

Most of the Brighton gay bars and pubs are located in the city's ‘Gay Quarter’ in Brighton’s Kemp Town – a compact strip of pubs and clubs just moments from the seafront. Download a free Brighton map to see where Kemp Town is located.

Brighton gay bars and pubs

Below you'll find the key gay bars and pubs in the city:

  • Bar Revenge - a stones throw away from the beach and directly opposite the famous Brighton Pier the bar is part of the Revenge club.
  • Legends – long-term Brighton favourite, Legends has an all day bar with a sea facing terrace and popular club at weekends.
  • The A Bar – relax on the sun terrace and watch the world pass by. Centrally located, with views of the Brighton Pier, plus an eclectic programme of events.
  • Charles Street - one of the busiest gay bars in Brighton with its chic & trendy crowd and central location. Often the last port of call for a cheeky one, before hitting the nearby clubs.
  • The Bulldog - with regular happy hours and special events the Bulldog is a cosy Brighton gay pub in the centre of town. And its not going anywhere either - it's been around for over 30 years!
  • The Queen's Arms – a stalwart of the Brighton gay scene, The Queen's Arms is one of Brighton's longest running mixed venues serving up a whole host of entertainment. A great place to chill in the day too.
  • Doctor Brighton - full of character and opposite the beachfront, Doctor Brighton’s is another mainstay of the Brighton scene.
  • Royal Oak - traditional pub in hub of Kemp Town, offering real ales, a substantial beer garden and cabaret on Saturday nights.
  • The Marlborough - historic lesbian pub with great small theatre upstairs for the thespians. Just off the Old Steine opposite the Royal Pavilion.
  • Poison Ivy - karaoke bar with themed nights - perfect for songsters who love to belt out a camp classic.
